The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has released the Sustainable Development Goals - National Indicator Framework (NIF) Progress Report 2026, providing the latest time-series data to track India's progress across all 17 SDGs. The updated NIF now comprises 277 national indicators, serving as a comprehensive framework for evidence-based policymaking and SDG monitoring.

The report highlights notable gains including an almost three times increase of India's installed renewable energy capacity over the past decade, from 64.04 watts per capita in 2014-15 to 193.36 watts per capita in 2025-26. Renewable energy's share in installed electricity capacity rose from 16.02% (2015-16) to 22.13% (2024-25). The power sector's carbon intensity declined from 61.45 tonnes CO₂/₹ crore (2015-16) to 40.52 tonnes (2022-23).

Alongside the report, MoSPI has released supporting publications, including a Data Snapshot, updated NIF metadata handbook, and the first thematic SDG bulletin on the 'People' dimension of sustainable development.
