India Expands Energy Partnership with Mauritius

During Minister Hardeep Singh Puri's visit to Mauritius on 20-21 August 2026, India and Mauritius have strengthened bilateral energy cooperation through a Government-to-Government (G2G) MoU on the oil and gas sector and a five-year fuel supply agreement between Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) and Mauritius' State Trading Corporation. Under the agreement, IOCL will supply Mauritius' entire import requirement of petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel, providing long-term supply security and protection from global price volatility.

Beyond conventional fuels, the MoU also promotes cooperation in biofuels, capacity building, research, and training, reflecting a broader energy transition partnership between the two countries. This aligns with India's own push on biofuels, including its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blending roadmap targeting 1% SAF by 2027 and rising to 5% by 2030. The visit also marked the launch of a 27.5 TMT marine fuel storage facility at Port Louis, further strengthening India's position as a reliable energy partner in the Indian Ocean and supporting long-term cooperation in energy security and cleaner fuel initiatives.
