India Japan JCM Rules of Implementation (RoI) adopted/

The Rules of Implementation (RoI) for the India–Japan Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) was adopted 8 June 2026. It operationalises the Memorandum of Cooperation signed 7 August 2025 and welcomed at the Japan–India Summit on 29 August 2025. India is Japan's 31st JCM partner and this is India's first bilateral cooperation under the Paris Agreement.

JCM is a project-based crediting mechanism under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement. Japan-supported decarbonisation projects generate emission reductions verified through third-party MRV; resulting credits are shared between both countries per agreed methodology and transferred as ITMOs counting toward each side's NDC. A Joint Committee (first met 22 September 2025) governs project approval, methodologies and credit issuance, applying corresponding adjustments to avoid double counting.
